Disasters Wreak Disasters (Tag: Slytherin Gang, Matthew)

Emma was hurrying down the corridors back back to the stairway, carrying a motionless ball of fur in her hands, and tears fighting to come down. Emma couldn't bare to cry though, she used all her strength to hold it back. But Potions class had just gone horribly, and now she had to get Rook to the hospital wing. She really hoped the nurses could help with animals, though if they couldn't, Emma would just have to take care of her little buddy herself. That was all that mattered at the moment.

She didn't care to think about class, nor how badly she failed or how miserable she was. Rook's pained squeaks were enough to focus her mind in on the fact that he needed her. Rook had been with her since her first year, she caught the wild mouse all on her own, or so she remembered, and Rook hadn't run away once. He could have, he had many opportunities to, but he never did. He was a much of a friend to her as Kaden, Matthew, and everyone else. Rook was precious to her, knew all her secrets, and shared so many happy memories with her. She couldn't let him down. She was almost to the stairway.

"Look at what the cat dragged in."

Rossa appeared in the hallway, a smirk on her face and with a sway to her hip. She had cut off Emma as she was running through the hallways in the dungeons, crying. That made Rossa smile a little bit more, as she loved to toy with whatever little ones crossed her path, "A dead mouse and its servant."

"In our territory."

This time a boy spoke, popping out from around the corner after Rossa, who was now leaning on the wall. The boy stood next to her, blocking the entirety of the hallway. The only way that Emma could go now was back, and there wasn't much of anything in that direction. His voice was deep, and he was clearly new. He had a slight accent, but nothing like another country or anything. Perhaps he was from the southern UK.

They both stared at Emma, waiting for a response. They had found each other, and they had found enjoyment in torturing the younger years. Especially in the Dungeons, where they were least likely to be interrupted.

Emma stopped abruptly as an older girl cut her off, and a boy had joined in. Had they been any less direct, Emma might not have realized their intention right off the bat. But one, they were Slytherins, and two, their words were dripping with evil thoughts. Two older students, wanting nothing more than to bully younger years around.

"Excuse me, please." She looked them straight in the eyes as she spoke. She may have been upset, but she wasn't scared of thugs.

"Oh, sweetie, you aren't going anywhere."

Rossa spoke smoothly, now lifting herself off of the wall and smiling, staring right back into the girl's eyes. Rossa was taller than Emma, probably by about 2 inches, which wasn't much, but Rossa was going to play it up.

It was Anthony who moved first, taking the rat right out of Emma's hands, and holding it by the tail. He made a face that scuffed at the thing, while Rossa looked at the rat with disgust. Anthony swung it around from it's tail, far above the head of Emma, and laughed.

"Oh, looks like it's already dead. We should probably throw it into the trash...what do you say, Rossa?"

"Um, ew, like hell am I touching that piece of shit. Just throw it away already," Rossa spoke with her nose in the air, crinkling in disgust.

His mind was somewhere far away again, the little things that occupied him drifting in and out like a breeze would through an open window. He was coming back to the Slytherin common room after a walk by the lake, where he had been collecting pebbles for a new month clear of nightmares. Sometimes they worked, other times they did not; still Matthew collected them stubbornly, as if all of him depended on those little smooth stones.

He almost walked into the backs of two figures, one about his height, the other slightly taller; and he would have maybe apologised or just rounded them had he not caught sight of Emma, of all people. It took a moment to process the thought of seeing her down in the dungeons, when he would have expected her to be always outside, bathed in sunlight. It took another moment for him to remember that she must have been in Potions class, one that he must have forgotten to attend.

And the oddest thing of all, one that Matthew would not have been able to connect with Emma if he were not seeing it then, was the lack of a bright smile. Her lips instead wore a frown, and her cheeks glistened with the stain of tears. Even Matthew could put two and two together, and his features seemed to transform as he stood behind the two of his fellow Slytherins; watching something white swing through the air and Emma’s desperate eyes that followed it. His voice was hard and cold as he spoke, and not at all the absent-minded Matthew.

“What are you doing?”

These Slytherins always seemed to have the worst timing on when they decided to pick on her. Right when Rook was feeling so sick, and she needed to get him to the Hospital Wing. The girl, Rossa, seemed to be enjoying herself. Emma had seen her somewhere before, no doubt causing trouble for other students. The bullies always seemed to get there name all around school. She wasn't sure who the boy was though, she hadn't seen him before.

"Hey!" She cried as he stepped forward and yanked Rook from her. Her gaze grew wide with fear, as it fixated on the poor little mouse the boy was swinging around and around. "No, stop it! Put him down!" She tried to reach his hand, but her height wasn't much help. Instead, she thrust a closed fist at his chest, and kicked him in the shin, "Give him back!"

"What are you doing?" Emma glanced over the boy's shoulder and felt a sliver of relief, "Matt!" Matthew was here, he would fix this, or at least even the odds a bit.
