Dein walked into the room, his mood a little less obvious now that he had removed himself from the reception hall. He approached the arranged snack on the long table and scooped up a cream puff for himself.

As he popped it into his mouth, he slid his hands into his pockets and glanced around, taking in his surroundings and those who were present in it.

It was easy to let go and have her movements lead her away. There seemed to be more people down the hall, so Theo slowly let her dance fade and simply took to wandering again. No matter what, she wouldn't regret coming to the ball. It was good for one's soul to be surrounded by beautiful things; a wonderful hall, people dressed their best.

Food was probably good, too. Theo realized she was hungry as she caught the scent of fine meals and refreshments set in the dining hall. The long tables presented a variety of salts and sweets, expensive spices and several combinations of the three. Well, Theo knew what she wanted to try most. Anything sweet was sure to tickle down her tongue and then maybe a glass of punch, to make the colours more intense.

Dein glanced up as a blur of pure pink floated into the room. He couldn't help but note how odd such a hair color was. His gaze followed the girl as she went in search of sweets. By the look of her, she had to have been a student, but certainly not one Dein had ever come across. Well, perhaps he just didn't remember then. He could sense a tinge of familiarity about her, but he couldn't place where he could have seen her before.

"Hello there." He said in a purely curious tone, as she grew near the table of sweets.

Jai walked into the dining hall looking for food. spying some food, he heaped it onto a plate and grabbed a seat. He didn't care how it looked, free food was free food to him.

Theo looked up from a blue something or other, spared the boy a glance, then turned her eyes to the creamy fluffy thing again. "What do you reckon this is?" She'd certainly never seen anything quite like it. There was a bowl of sugared butterfly wings next to the thing, of which Theo popped one into her mouth. As the chocolate melted against her tongue, she took a moment to smile sheepishly at the taste.

Dein shrugged, accepting the distraction of this strange girl, "Perhaps it's blueberry flavored? Why don't you test it for poison?" He suggested with a sly smirk. He took the opportunity to grab some punch to drown out the taste of the cream puff, as it was far too sweet for his taste. When he returned he glanced at the door as more people seemed to flood in from the reception hall. Didn't seem many took to dancing well, so where else than the dining hall, would they reside?

Theo snorted, looking around for a spoon, then scooping it up full of the cream. "Aaah, poison, you say? Probably not, though I don't fancy myself blue." Only recently she'd been tiny; another enchanted food was not in her schedule tonight. A paranoid prankster knew to avoid being a victim of a prank.

Then again, it might be fun. "Now if it doesn't do anything, I'll be disappointed."

Dein chuckled before leaning against the table, bored once more, "Couldn't find a dance partner, or do you just like sweets more than people?" He asked in a dull tone as he stared out towards the hall. Though he was being sure to keep hold of the conversation, his thoughts were elsewhere.

"You don't need a partner to dance, now do you?" Theo countered, still examining the cream on her spoon. "Okay, I'm going to eat it."

Ooooh, well, it didn't turn her blue, but Theo reached for a drink immediately after tasting the blue mass. Her eyes teared up a little as she washed down the cream with pumpkin juice and she made a face, reaching for something else to replace the taste. "It's not blueberry flavoured," she informed smartly.

"I suppose." Dein replied smoothly, perfectly content with being outwitted. He watched her, as she put the strange blue substance in her mouth, and then laughed at the look on her face. Yes, that made him feel much better, "Good to know. I'll be avoiding whatever that is then." He said with a devilish smirk.

"So pink hair, you dance alone- any other odd things I should know about, miss?" He scratched the back of his head and grabbed yet another cream puff.

"I can't reveal all my secrets in one night," Theo gave a one bare-shouldered shrug. "Not unless you work for it, anyway." She held up the bowl of blue cream, smiled sweetly. "Maybe it tastes different for each person?"

Slowly, Theo lowered the bowl, hiding it behind several better-tasting sweets so no unfortunate person would purposely reach for it first. "I know I saw you in one of my classes," she looked at the boy, took a moment to remember, then sipped her punch and nodded.

"Potions. Luke doesn't like you."

His expression grew blank as she mentioned the Potions master, "The feeling is mutual," was his only reply. "Dein Edrins. And you are?"

He hadn't come to this ball to talk about the people he hated. And certainly didn't want to be discussing such things with someone who was practically a stranger to him.

"Sweetheart!! You didn't tell me that you were entreated to attend!"

A huge hug came from Dein's mother, who looked way too long and way too revealing to be his mother, grasping him tightly between her arms. She had no idea that her son would be here, and was so glad to see him. Ever since his father came home...banished? How could her son be banished? She didn't understand, but she had to oblige. It was for a good reason, she was sure. But, Dein was still her son, and to see him here practically brought tears to her eyes. Oh how she missed him!

John was hustling up the steps of HoenJae Concert Hall, while checking his wrist watch. He was most defiantly late for the Ball, seeing woman in gowns and men in tuxes through the glass doors. He could not believe he lost track of time like that, as he fixed his loose black button up shirt back into his pants. Once more, he looked himself over, his clothes were kind of wrinkled, but he thought that if he pulled at it enough that they would magically straighten.

Deciding he look decent enough, he went in and paid his fee. They smiled, and bowed but he knew they thought he look cheap, and a mess. He could not blame them, as he tugged once more to crease the wrinkles out of his shirt. Not until he crossed one of the pillars of the Grand Foyer did he notice how a mess he really looked. His hair was stock up at odd ends like he was porcupine. "Damn," he muttered to himself trying all his might to flatten it down before he meet up with Eirina.

As he walked, he decided to follow what seem to be youngsters from Hogwart's into what seem like the Dinning Hall. He was not surprise to see them, hearing Order members speak of it with worried voices. He too had his doubts, but the staff at hogwarts were capable people, or at least almost all of them.

Once inside, he scan for Eirina.

"Theodora Gray. Oh, don't look so sullen. Have a coconut ice," Theo reached for the shimmering pink squares; held one out to Dein and another in front of her own mouth. "On three?"

Her lips slowly started pulling back into the Cheshire grin. She was Theo after all; no pretty dress or graceful stance could change that. She watched Dein carefully, added as an afterthought "You're not allowed to refuse."

But then some woman was upon him and Theo promptly pulled her hand back. She let it drop, feeling the cool pink ice between her fingers, enchanted not to melt. Her smile faltered a bit, but never disappeared completely. She was simply surprised at the sudden persona.

He eyed the pink square suspiciously, ready to take before their conversation was interrupted And when he heard his mother's voice, he practically flinched right before he was pulled into an embrace.

"Mother?" He paused, the surprise in his voice being sapped by the haunting of such a false comfort. He pulled away, though he was sure she would assume he was an embarrassed child, and he looked her in the eyes. He had feared the possibility of his father being here for a moment, but then reconsidered, and decided that it was not in his nature to attend such things. No, it was only his mother that appreciated elegant gatherings such as this.

"You didn't here that the school was attending?" He said in a flat tone.

"I pay no mind to that paraphernalia! Aside, your father burns almost every letter from Hogwarts, all the junk they send, it's inconceivable!"

She stood back now, taking in the appearance of her son. It was a black tux that he was wearing, a bit of a disappointment to her. Had she not taught him of proper dress? Perhaps it was her fault. But there was still room to fix that. She still had time with her boy, right? However, he was still dressed, his hair done, and longer now, too!

"You're so handsome! Oh you look just like your father!" She smiled and fixed his tie, tightening it properly and admiring her son.

"Of course." Dein said in the most unamused tone imaginable before he turned back to Theo, "Give me that." He said as he scooped the pastry up from Theo's hand and shoveled it into his mouth. He knew his mother would not leave immediately, but he didn't plan on acting he was happy about her being here. He had been, for a split second, but then realized that she wasn't going to say anything about what his father had done.

John, not seeing Eirina in the room, he went to a woman finely dressed with shimmer gold fabric. At first glance the women seemed to be well connected with high society members. Was she that well connected, that she knew Eirina? he asked himself. John still did not know Eirina's occupation, but what he gather from his weekly letters, was that she was philanthropist, a philosopher, and sometimes a poet. Eirina must be well connected.

As he approach the table, he tried once again to flatten down his spiked up hair, but failing miserably. "Excuse me miss? Can you tell me where I might find Eirina Naer?"

Lydin felt immediate pain when her son cast his glances and cares away from her. There was no joy in his eyes to see her, nothing like what was in hers. She felt so hurt, and her own eyes fell in pain. What had she done wrong?

And then came a man. So dirty, and not very well put together. She was judging him before he even arrived, but he said next nearly stunned her. She was quick to compose herself though, as if she never lost it. It would be hardly noticeable, or notable.

"No, no I have not. Now if you'll excuse me..."

She had grabbed the back of Dein's collar, calling his attention and turning him around.

"My son and I must be going."

And she made way for the balcony.

As his mother abruptly pulled on his shirt collar, he started coughing, the pastry getting caught in his throat as his mother walked away towards the balcony. Once he'd recovered and swallowed, he bowed courteously to Theo, "If you'll excuse me." He said grumpily before following his mother out. On his way, he gave that man a judging glance, but made a swift exit.

The situation had quickly become awkward on Theo's part. She surrendered the sweet as Dein asked for it, then stepped aside to let mother and son reunite. Dein did not look... comfortable, for the lack of a better word, so Theo lingered by the tables in case she needed to provide a distraction. Gods knew if she ever got cornered by her Gran, she'd want someone to save her.

Well, there's a thought. Would Gran be at this event? Would she have brought Nora along? Theo frowned, poured herself another glass of punch. Waved a little as Dein got pulled away. Then wandered off again, gently pulled by the melodious songs in the reception hall.

Of course no one knew Eirina, she probably was a nobody, like himself. It did not bother John one bit, but the woman did not have to take that tone with him like he was some kind of miscreant. He watched the mother and son leave, the son not leaving by his own free will, and lastly the pink headed girl skipping away as if she did not know where she was at or even where she was going.

Eirina had then walked in, looking around to make sure that there weren't any children in here. Two. It was two that she couldn't quite place, but there were a lot of people, and a lot of mingling. And they were best friends, so likely they were together. As for the trouble...they'd probably be causing it.
